how Allies hold Space
There are unseen forces at work — watching over us, respecting our free will, embracing us with love if we allow them.   – Jonathan Zap

who is the Blue Dragon, and why a Ball?

Much of what we practice at Be Space engages a compassionate observer. In Contemplative Dance Practice we call it the role of the well-wisher and onlooker. In Authentic Movement we cultivate an inner and outer witness. At Open Floor and other performance practices we bring the audience closer to us – dissolving the sense of separation and befriending the ‘other’ as ourselves. In all of our explorations we are making an offering to the seen and to the unseen.

At Be Space, the Blue Dragon sets an amazing example of being a loving witness to ourselves and others.

The day after I was handed the key to our new creative home at 211 Southeast 11th Ave, my dear friend Alouette and I brought in the first of many armloads of things to begin shaping the space into its intended purpose. Many allies have taken up residence at Be Space, but the Blue Dragon was the first among them. From its perch it has been witness to the full range of moments in Space – sacred naps, delightful surprises, musical discoveries, and heartful creations. I see this creature as a shining example of what it means to hold space for what is, as it is, inviting us to become loving and compassionate witnesses to ourselves and each other.

I’m feeling pretty sentimental about the studio and what it has become. We are in our third year, with a growing community of explorers and friends all willing to enter into the curious proposition of reclaiming our authentic expression. The Blue Dragon Ball arises from the glowing intersection of this sentimentality and a profound appreciation for the allies who have gathered around Be Space (seen and unseen, human and more-than-human). This is our time to gather on behalf of one another, and in celebration of the space that has hosted so much in such a short time.

With that in mind, I invite you to the Blue Dragon Ball on Friday December 4, 2015. Yes, all magical beings are welcome. Yes, wings and halos may exist. Yes, there will be food and frolic and the kind of charmed play that we are blessed with at Be Space. It is my deepest wish that you feel inspired to step into your most delighted nature and join other allies of Space to joyfully witness what we have created together.

Restoring Connection in a Fragmented World

It’s an astounding time on Earth in pretty much every way — in turns dramatic and disturbing, emergent and encouraging.

And although it isn’t all kittens and rainbows, I have felt incredibly buoyed and heartened knowing that we are sharing the journey together.

Today I am officially …

Creative impulses often show up as medicine, even when we don’t think we’re sick. The first edition of the Dreamfruit Almanac came out in 2020. And we all know what a remarkable and strange year that was. It isn't lost on me that this book and its storied landscape...
